Frequently Asked Questions

Throughout the years of running this collective, I’ve come to receive emails asking the same questions over and over again. I figured it was time I put some of the more commonly asked questions here for everyone’s reference. If you find that this FAQ did not help you in the least bit and that you still have not found the answer to your question, then please feel free to contact me and I’ll respond as soon as I can. Thank you!

Can you link to my site?

Sorry, but no. Mostly because once I say yes, I often get a whole slew of people attacking me to get me to link to their sites…which brings in a new set of problems because I don’t link to everyone who may be asking. I like visiting sites, but I generally hand-pick my links. If I notice your site and I like it, I’ll most likely get around to linking it. Signing my guestbook is often a good way to get me to notice it, but please don’t use that as your method of advertising. That’s rude, and I’ll most likely end up deleting your message. Since I do check my tracker and pay attention to who links to OwarinaiNET, I will also often reciprocate the link if I like what I see.

Are you accepting affiliates or siblings?

For affiliates, yes I’m currently accepting domains and collectives of sites with good content and presentation. Since this is a domain, I will only take affiliates with actual domains and not a hosted site, whether free or not. Please send me an email if you’d like to be one. In terms of siblings or family, these are only for people that I actually know. If I know you at all, and you’d like to be a sibling- please let me know. :)

Will you host my site?

In brief, I’m very selective about taking hostees but not for the same reasons as what you might imagine (really, it’s not elitism). Please look at the Hosting Info section for more on this. My safest answer now is to just email me with your site’s URL and an estimate of what you need and why you want to be hosted here, then we can go from there. It doesn’t hurt to ask- though I’m just saying upfront that it’s not easy to get hosting here if I don’t know you.

Will you make me a website/layout/button, etc?

Sure, send me an email detailing what you need and I’ll give you a price quote. I do not, however, do customized graphic work for free as I’m a designer by profession. For free graphic resources, you can always pay Colorfilter Designs a visit to see if there’s anything that you might want or need.

How often do you update your sites?

Ah. The dreaded question. Unfortunately, I don’t have a set answer for you. It all depends. In general, I tend to update in chunks with a lot of new stuff at a time but the gap between each update may take a bit long. I’ll admit that I’m usually a lot more fervent in putting up a site rather than updating it. But since I usually only open a site to the public when it’s as complete as possible at the time, I like to think that there’s still a substantial amount of content to browse whether I update it regularly or not.

Please know, though, that I have a very hectic life outside of these sites- which means everything doesn’t revolve around my fandom sites. I try to spend a portion of my free time to work on them, but it’s impossible for me to update all my sites with a ton of new content every other week. If I did that, I’d have no time for food, sleep, or necessary bathroom needs. And please don’t email me to rudely demand that I update “now”- because that really doesn’t make me feel particularly hot about updating. In fact, I receive these emails so much that I’ve often thought about taking the whole site down altogether to save myself from these demands.

I signed your guestbook; why didn’t you reply?

Although I actively check my guestbook and always read every entry left by my visitors, I don’t usually respond to them. I appreciate all the entries left and I love reading what people think, but I treat them as exactly that. A place where my visitors can log their opinion of my sites. In that sense, I don’t really respond to them unless a question was asked- in which I might respond via the comment reply feature of the guestbook. But that aside, if you have something of importance that you need to tell me…it might be better for you to email me rather than sign the guestbook.

Why didn’t you reply to my email?

This question sort of go hand in hand with the one about my guestbook. If you emailed me only with a random comment, I may not respond to it depending on how busy I am at the time. A simple one-sentence on how you like my sites generally don’t get a response because it would be a little ridiculous for me to reply with a mere two words of “Thank you!”...so that said, I think those are probably better suited for guestbook signings. But if you emailed me with a question that I didn’t touch upon here or anywhere else on my site, I generally should be replying to it. Give me a little time though. However, if you still didn’t hear from me for a very long time- there’s a chance that I didn’t get it so you may want to send it again.

Why was your Q&A section deleted?

Because of spam, spam, and more spam. And even more spam from crazy visitors. I got tired of people having conversations on the Q&A page with each other and treating it like a message board of some sort, even though the form is for asking me questions so that I can answer. And for the love of God, if you’re one of those people who have been sending me hostile emails about taking this Q&A page down because you’re not able to continue chatting with your fellow spammer friends- PLEASE STOP. You were not even supposed to use it as a spam chatting place anyway. Go on AIM or something, and stop bothering me.

Can you teach me HTML?

I’m sorry…but I really don’t have the time. I’m currently reworking my previous Owarinai Designs’ tutorials, so you can take a look at those once they’re properly edited. In the meantime, I suggest doing a search on Google for some tutorials that you can learn from. That’s how most of us website owners learned, and it’s really not very hard at all. Give it a try, I say. :)

Are you Japanese?

Every once in a while, I get this question. The answer is no. :p I’m not Japanese even though one set of my grandparents may as well have been, and my mother’s side of the family all speak with Japanese snippets to each other.

Can we be friends?

Honestly, I always get weirded out whenever someone asks me this question. I’m flattered you’d like to be my friend- but I just don’t make friends like that off the bat. I rarely have time to converse with my actual friends as it is. If you truly want to get to know me, there are better ways of going about it- like visiting me at the forums or commenting on my blog and going from there. But an email with nothing but a question of whether we can be friends or not will most likely end up getting no response from me. Sorry, I just don’t know how to answer to that. :p
